Not only do these little "gadgets" work for their intended purpose. They also function as "spark arrestors". With the ongoing drouth conditions out here in the West, the guys with the green suits & Smoky Bear hats ate getting fussier about smoking regulations outside designated camp areas & vehicles when the "NO BURN" restrictions are in effect I've had a couple Rangers comment my ingenuity. While NOT Forestry approved, these might save us pipe smokers problems. Also hind them extremely handy while blasting down the road on my Harley! While not the easiest gadget to use, they serve their function well. Have to get more!
