Creep factor (An updated review)

Alright, so given the time to aerate, as all tinned tobacco needs, Peterson's De Luxe Navy Rolls reveal their character quite nicely and do something different in the melding of Virginia and Perique. At first, you might react like I first did last month, especially when Elizabethan is readily at hand. But as I got near the end of this tin, something really intriguing began to happen with the flavour... how it finally came out of hiding and sneaked up on my palette. It *can* be quite the deluxe treatment when the mood strikes and makes me think this is probably closer to what Escudo used to taste back in the day. (STG's reincarnation didn't gain one bit of depth for me over time, a shame given it's "legendary" reputation.)

So, yes, this ex-Dunhill now comes at my recommendation, but stuck at a four-star rating maximum due to the high cost.

Not luxurious to me!

Comparable to the now-overrated Escudo, but a league ahead of it. Tastier Virginias, decent presentation... though the Perique is less prominent which, from me, docks a star off the rating. Also, the price point? Ridiculous. Over $18 for only 50g of tobacco? I expected a resurrected masterpiece! Instead, I got Escudo Sr. (You can get a quality pound of D&Rs for nearly the same price!)

Myself, I like more Perique in my Va/Per, so 'Liz is still my woman.
And I'm a sucker for a yummy Cavendish center, so David's still the man.
But if you've got deep pockets and prefer something milder, give this a try.

P.S. I wish 4noggins stocked Peterson's Dark Flake so I could try that, but alas, it's not to be.
