RATOLD
Old Gowrie is a Virginia pipe tobacco prepared in the old-time manner as a broken flake or "rubbed out" for those who favor a finer cut. Its essential charm is its coolness and tranquilizing properties which has led it to find its way all over the world.

It's summer and the intensity of smoking is faster.
When you first light it, you can smell the hay from the Virginia, later the perique is added and together they create bread notes,
partially the taste of light beer. Later, a round taste of cream on the palate.
When I slow down to the edge of extinction in the second half, you can smell the sweet taste of the Virginia and the notes of Kentucky.
If I hold on slowly until the end, it creates the taste of cane sugar.
In the fall, a cooler pipe and air with a slower smoking pace from the beginning brings the notes of Kentucky to the forefront.
I smell nutty coffee notes and it reminds me of Stirling Flake, or Irish Flake but with a softer touch.
Later, the sourness and spiciness of the perique are added and in the base there is a hay-like touch of Virginia that creates the body of the taste.
In the second half you can feel a slight sweetness and nutty cappuccino with a creamy arc on the palate.
It depends on the pipe, the temperature and especially the speed and amount of smoke. You don't want a lot of smoke at once and it will reward you with the aforementioned
mixture of flavors that always surprises you with something.
I use a billiard pipe with a 2cm opening and a 1cm wall thickness of the pipe.
Not exactly what I recall from early days but a rich good smoke.
Rattray's Old Gowrie is an old, classic, predominantly Virginia blend: sweet, mild and middle of the road, with some vaguely gentle spice and a higher then medium, very satisfying strength. I remember the very first, love-at-first-smoke times I enjoyed Old Gowrie, and it's at it's best taken real, flavourfully slow. Won't bite, even if provoked - but don't rush! A superlative, must try tobacco - especially for Virginia connoisseurs who appreciate that only the very best will do. .
really nice
'Old Gowrie' by Rattray is one of the world's classic tobaccos. There's just something appealing about its quality that you can't quite put your finger on but that keeps you coming back. Perique is one of those tobaccos you either love or hate, but with 'Old Gowrie' it acts as a background condiment adding a delicate, subtle depth. This truly is an old fashioned, smooth masterpiece that conjures up less rushed times. Benefits from rubbing out and a little airing. You can also get it in bulk and if you don't you'll wish you had. It's an impressive tobacco.
