Mississippi River is a smooth, medium blend of pressed red and stoved Virginia tobaccos with a unique balance of Louisiana Perique and Cyprian Latakia, which makes this krumble kake tobacco a complex and rich smoke with a lovely sweet finish that lingers nicely on the palate. This Seattle Pipe Club Blend was created by the master blending guru, Joe Lankford, and is now being blended and offered for sale. A major hit with members who like Virginias and/or English blends - very gentle on the tongue for an all day smoke.

Extremely pleasant and relaxing. Not hard heavy smoke, But rather smoothing
It made me dream of sailing down the Ole’ Miss in grander days. Many thanks
An interesting English blend and one that could be an all day smoker for those inclined. The Virginias are more forward than a typical English and provide a tangy sweetness, especially the stoved Virginia. The latakia is evident but far from a "lat bomb". The Orientals are always present in the background providing spicy notes. Finally the perique plays nice, providing a nice stewed fruit note.
The krumble kake is easily broken apart for packing. The burn is cool with no rough notes. Required a few relights at the outset.
The aftertaste is light but lingering and pleasant. The room note is pleasant.
Mississippi River is a fine statement as to the blending ability of the late, missed Joe Lankford.
As a VERY new pipe smoker my review is solely for the benefit of anyone whose traveled just as far as I have on my journey into the briar. Note: I've been a long time cigar aficionado so my knowledge of tobacco and flavors may surpass that of an average novice. I originally ordered 2oz of this after seeing many reviews that bestow praise upon MR. The package note was that of a savory, smoky, sweet tangy note. Almost like a quality beef jerky but with the tobacco core. Moisture was that of a wet dog! It is a crumble cake that has what appears to be good ribbon cuts. For the most part it was without inclusions or stems. I decided to go ahead and break apart the cake on a piece of office paper and then let it dry out for an hour. After that hour I lit my fist bowl. I went with a pot shaped briar because even after breaking up there were still some large pieces. The false light was such a tease! The flavors were something indiscernible yet my brain processed as amazingly good! Once I got the bowl going the flavors exuded were truly amazing... Sweet and smoky meat up front followed by a delectable caramel like clean finish. As the bowl progressed the flavors stayed very consistent all the way down. The drying time I mentioned before was perfect (for me) no gurgling or steam/tongue bite. The only problem I had with this blend is knowing I did not order enough! I smoked 3 more bowls to be sure and immediately upon completion of my 3rd bowl I ordered 16oz and put it into my daily rotation. If you are just venturing into the latakia world, I recommend this blend for you. If you are a veteran of latakia I recommend this blend for you as well! It is a great all day smoke or even a good, dare I say, "night cap"... Ohh and just so you know, this stuff goes quick so order while its in stock! You'll be left wanting more!
