My local brick-and-mortar tobacconist in Yorkville, Thomas Hinds, is primarily a purveyor of Cuban cigars, but for the longest time valiantly maintained a modicum of decent tinned and bulk pipe tobaccos in the face of dwindling demand. Always on hand was this one, and perhaps for that reason above all others it is my go-to English blend. It isn't too much in any direction; I find it settles down into gingerbread and hints of burning autumn leaves (in a good way) for the majority of the smoke. There are other, more exciting English blends out there, but this one is subtle and quite comfortable for me at any time of day.
My particular pallet gets tongue burn quite easily with Latakia. I'm not sure why.. just my personal reaction to it. That said, a slow smoke of this is tolerable for me so I suspect there is less in this that other blends and it may be a good place to start for newbs trying get used to Latakia. It's tough for me to decide between 3 and 4 stars, but I'm giving the benefit of the doubt based on the fact that I'm an anti-Lak-tite.
