I don't like liqueur anything. Never have. That said, Gawith Hoggarth Rum Flake was a fantastic surprise. These are high grade, sweet tobaccos, beautifully blended with only the barest hint of rum, although it smells strong straight from the tin. Luxurious, exquisite and eminently satisfying are words that come to mind. Packed wet. Needs drying. Gorgeous!
I didn't like this tobacco much when I first tried it after smoking a mild Virginia, but found it grew on me the more I smoked it. I couldn't taste the rum in it. The tin says it also contains vanilla, but I couldn't taste that either. It has an old fashioned mature, earthy flavour that I came to appreciate, though I wouldn't say the taste was more than medium strength. It also has a fair dose of nicotine. I intend to smoke this in winter as an alternative to Samuel Gawith 1792 Flake. Overall, it's a very satisfying smoke that's worth a try.
I rate this five star. Both the taste and aroma is outstanding. There is no tongue bite and the taste is superb. My only regret is I did not discover it forty years ago. Highly recommended!
