Solani: 660 SILVER FLAKE 100g

Solani 660 Silver Flake is a choice, medium strength, smooth, slightly sweet, Virginia blend that gives all it has to offer if taken slowly. Perfect moisture content, but benefits from being airtight sealed, as the bag it comes in isn't that great. The Kentucky adds a little depth to the Virginia's gentle spiciness, so it doesn't smoke hot. Highly recommended, even if you don't like Kentucky/Burley tobaccos as the Virginias are the stars.

This is a standout VaBur with dark Kentucky which ages extremely well. It's great fresh but shines after a few years.

I find it reminds me of the old Three Nuns, Orlik's "Dark Stong Kentucky", Peter Heinrich's "Dark Strong Flake". But out of those three, this one wins. It's the most expensive too (I think), but I think you get what you pay for. It's quite spicy, sweet, and delicious and it doesn't bite easily (unless you really chug).

In terms of strength, it starts out medium, but builds through the bowl and can get quite 'robust' (think full corona cigar).

Definitely one of the finest tobacco's I have ever smoked.

Pairs perfectly with black coffee and the flavour and scent lingers nicely. It reminds me a lot of some British 'Dark Flake' blends (Rich Dark Flake, Best Brown, etc.) but with a much lighter topping (if any). Very, very good.

Wierd tin presentation choice though... make sure you have a jar ready.

Solani Silver Flake (Blend 660) conjures an old time, less hurried atmosphere as you sit back and allow the relaxation of this mid-strength, predominantly sweet, deep, velvet smooth Virginia to truly satisfy. It gets stronger as the bowl progresses and relights well, within reason. It’s a blend that all pipe smokers and definitely those who appreciate quality Virginia should try. It’s just that good. The only problem with this tinned tobacco is the nasty plastic bag in which it is sealed, so once opened Solani Silver Flake needs to be stored in an airtight container – unless you like it dry.
