About 15 years ago, I decided to quit chain-smoking cigarettes and dusted off my old poser pipe from university days. I started with brands I recognized from cigarettes, such as Dunhill and Davidoff. I picked this one at random and it became my personal standard from which to judge all subsequent blends, especially Virginias. Although I generally prefer bulk tobacco blends, I often come back to this one (now courtesy of Peterson) for a “palette reset”. Smooth, simple and even, but strong and rich compared to the usual Virgina blends (apparently it has plum flavouring added, perhaps plum brandy?). It pairs nicely with good whisky.
