Peter Stokkebye: LUXURY NAVY FLAKE

A great flavorful smoke !!

Very bold in taste. Not quite for my palate. Seattle barrel aged, quiet nights, Maltese falcon much more to my liking.

Unlike most Va/Pers, this flake is not a ponderous, overly matured, complex, and dark fruity flake. Instead it's a happy, generous tobacco with very naturally aromatically bright and zesty notes of citrus, figs, and golden raisins. It's the white Zinfandel vs. the cabernet of more deeply flavored Va/Pers. Tongue bite is minimal to nil, and it's easy to rub out and burns well. This is a very satisfying smoke that fills the room with a delicious aroma. The perique is just present enough to add a hint of bottom to the lighter VA. If there's a touch of rum added, it's not detectable as such, but it's doing something to mellow this out and sweeten it. This can easily be an all day smoke for seasoned flake aficionados. It's also the only Stokkebye flake I'd buy a few pounds of.

For the price, you really can’t go wrong. These flakes are full of flavour, with just a touch of perique and Virginia leaf that’s perfectly serviceable. As an everyday smoke, they’re a solid choice that won’t break the bank.

When I buy a flake tobacco, I like to get the unbroken flake, packed in a way that tries to preserve the whole flake until it gets to me. And I have to say that 4Noggins has fallen down on that aspect of customer service. When I buy the flakes, I want the flakes and not a ton of broken flakes and crumbs. Yes, I know there will be waste. But that could be packaged up and sold as 'broken flake.' Heck, I would even buy it. But when I buy flakes, I want the whole flake.
